studio4okaloosa is a campaign to raise awareness and resources to create a technology/media hub for the Okaloosa community in the Gulf Coast.

Now a little about me… I am not a techie. I have never worked in the technology industry. What I do have is an insatiable curiosity, a laser like focus when something captivates me, and a number of techie pals who live and breathe what’s trending in the industry. You know the kind… those who don’t consider vacation spots where they can’t “connect.” There is something to be said for checking out temporarily and listening to crashing waves. Yet it’s another to depend on dial up today for primary access and be shut out of the resources that broadband offers. A resource which so many of us now simply expect. Many in Okaloosa County, with its sugar white beaches and luxury resorts, have no access to broadband in their community. While great efforts are underway to resolve this, we can do our part to get more people connected!

Okaloosa County’s grant request for federal funding

The State’s response to NTIA

So let’s shake things up a bit and get these communities engaged. Are you up for the challenge? Join me in my quest to create a technology/media hub for a community that is well deserving. I am striving to establish a community portal where senior citizens can learn what a RSS reader is or the youth can learn all about the latest technology. Throw in new digital film making equipment and introduce them to the world of self broadcasting. Ultimately, I hope to bridge the gap in technology that exists between the Gulf Coast and the West Coast. Silicon Valley is not the goal. Recognizing that opportunities exist and giving the community a window to the connected world is.

The studio’s success would ultimately depend on satisfying the desires and demands of the community. Jump in and join the discussion! Have ideas of what constitutes a cutting edge tech/media studio? By all means, please contribute!
